"Wonder Full World" Women's Retreat

On April 8th and 9th a group of women from PHBC set off on a “trip around the world.” While others have traveled the world in 80 days, it took us just 2 days to step foot on every continent. Along the way we learned that God's world is truly full of wonders. He cares for each of us, no matter where we are. We are royalty, His princesses, and we truly matter to Him. When life gets hard, and the cold winds of Antarctica are blowing on us, He is always there and His Word and His actions show us over and over again that we can really rely on HIM. Making a difference is something everyone can do! We were blessed to be able to put together blankets to send to an orphanage during our stop in Africa.

When we finally arrived back in the States we walked away having grown closer to God, but also to the women who traveled with us. It was a “Wonder Full” time. Keep an eye on your calendars because you never know where God will lead us next year!

Women's Retreat 2010 - Sweet Life Cafe

The Sweet Life Cafe opened its doors this weekend to women who were hungry and thirsty for God. Ninety-five ladies gathered together on Friday and Saturday to learn about truly savoring their relationship with the Savior. We came to understand that He offers us relief from our hunger and thirst. He wants to fill us with the Bread of Life and Everlasting Water. As we came together we were able to worship His goodness and celebrate the differences He created in all of us. We laughed and cried together as we became more than just women who pass in the hallways of church, but rather friends who are walking on this journey together. In our closing session we were also called to make a difference in someone’s life by praying for them and then giving them a sweet treat we created with our own hands. It was a wonderful weekend of being refreshed!

Mom to Mom

Our Mom to Mom group met last Friday, October 23, in the parlor. Many moms came and enjoyed this much needed refreshing time together! This month's discussion topic was How Your Child Learns Through Games. It was a great time of fellowship and encouragement.

As you can see we have some great bakers in our group!

We played a game called "Two Truths and a Lie," where we told two things that were true, and one that wasn't. Then the others guessed which one was the lie. It was fun just to find out a little more about each other!
We learned, in Psalm 91, that when we dwell and abide in Him, and call to Him, He will deliver, answer, and  rescue us! Following our devotion time we prayed for each other.
Then our guest speaker, Lorraine, the mother of three girls, who is also a teacher, spoke to us about how we can teach our children through games.

Believe it or not, all of these games belong to her! She gave some great tips on how to use card games, board games, and games like Twister, to teach shapes, colors, numbers, counting. But most importantly, we learned that when you play as a family, you're building bonds together. The kids learn how to take turns,  how to win, and how to lose.

We'll be in the Parlor next month, November 20. Hope you can come as well, and learn about "Taking Care of the Mommy in Me."

Mom to Mom

Mom to Mom had a wonderful first get-together of the year today! We really enjoyed the time spent getting to know all the new moms, and catching up with our old friends. The snacks were tasty, and we found out what we had in common playing "The birthday game."

Elnora Heckathorn blessed us with some of her life story (did you know she LIKES to drive tractors!?!), and showing us how we can love our children. We were able to pray for each other, and remember how much Christ loves us. It was refreshing and uplifting to just be with other moms, and share our struggles, and joys!

Our Purpose: Mom to Mom at PHBC serves moms of young children in the community, providing encouragement and to help moms find an outlet for learning, sharing, and growing to be the mothers and women God has created us to be.

Sweet Saturday

Women of Parma Heights Baptist Church enjoyed a Sweet Saturday morning of fellowship together on Saturday, August 29th. This was the third of four Sweet Saturdays scheduled. The ladies who gathered enjoyed refreshments as they listened to Mandi and Crystal minister in song. We also heard a few sweet solutions for finding and being prepared for "moments" in our lives to spend with God.

Elena shared with us how when it comes to moments in our lives there are some that we will "get caught up in", some that we will "anticipate", and some that we must "seize". We need to be careful that we do not become so busy trying to record the moment that we miss it in the first place. James 4:14 tells us "you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."

Life is full of "Sweet Moments" and if you're not careful, you'll miss them.

The final Sweet Saturday of the year is November, 14.
